This fall, the brothers of Alpha Tau Omega and the sisters of Delta Delta Delta teamed up once again to put on the Bids for Kids charity auction. Bids for Kids is a silent auction with all proceeds benefitting the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This is the sixth year of ATO’s involvement with the event, and it was a great success.
The brothers of ATO demonstrated teamwork and dedication as they hit the streets of downtown D.C., Bethesda, Annapolis, and Silver Spring to ask local businesses for donations to be auctioned off. Countless hours were spent going from store to store, speaking with managers, and shaking off rejection. The hard work paid off as nearly one hundred and fifty items were put up for auction, ranging from gift baskets to vacation homes in Colorado.
All of ATO and Tri-Delt’s efforts culminated on November 7th, the night of the auction. Brothers and sisters from both organizations worked together to transport donations, set up the ballroom, collect admission, and help the event run smoothly. Live music, catered food, and a special video presentation from St. Jude entertained bidders as they perused the selection. The silent auction was followed by a live auction, ensuring every item was auctioned off. In the end, just under $14,000 was raised for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We look forward to becoming even more involved next year and making the event even more successful.
