We will be hosting a Kid Power Field Day on Fraternity Row, Saturday, May 8th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The plan is to work with other sorority and fraternity chapters to create carnival stations for local underprivileged children to attend. We are working with the Kid Power organization and all donations will be presented to them.
Kid Power is a non-profit
organization that provides educational programming for 275 youth from
underserved communities in the District of Columbia. It
is a civics-based organization that provides academic, artistic, nutritional,
and service-learning opportunities for youth in underserved neighborhoods in
the District of Columbia. Kid Power empowers youth to become informed and
engaged advocates for change in their own lives and in their communities. The
Catalogue for Philanthropy 2007-2008 called Kid Power, “One of the best small
charities in the Greater Washington region.”
Such a devotion to civic responsibility is what separates Kid Power from other organization in D.C., and is what drew us to them in the first place. In fact the week prior to our Field Day, the kids will be taking part a huge service project of their own. And we think that deserves a little celebration.
